CUP KINGS ROVERS FIRE SIX OF THE BEST
Round-Up - Alexander Bowen
Taking a week off from Cheshire and Manchester Sunday league action last weekend, table toppers Manchester Rovers claimed a 6-1 scalp in the cup.
Inter Didsbury stood in the way of Rovers and a place in the final four, but with a division separating the two sides, the meeting was always going to prove difficult for Inter and so it did as Rovers secured their passage through to the semi-finals.
With a game in hand over Rovers in the league, Levenshulme have their sights set on the summit, but were also in cup action last weekend as they thrashed Denton Youth 8-2. Levenshulme now face Withington Wanderers in the semi-finals of the Godfrey Wilde Trophy.
Manchester Athletic A were equally impressive with a 7-1 demolition of second division outfit Mowtown. They join Manchester Rovers in the final four of the Subsidiary Cup.
With neither of the top two in action, third placed Withington Wanderers closed the gap with a narrow 2-1 victory over strugglers The Urmston and are now just five points adrift of Levenshulme.
St Kents remain at their heels, however, following a 3-1 win away at Manchester Valiant who now sit precariously above the relegation zone with just two points separating them from the foot of the table.
As all those playing host in the cup recorded victories, AFA FC preserved a perfect weekend for visiting league sides as they saw off AC Old Boys with a hard fought 3-2 win to ensure they remain in touching distance of the chasing pack.
