This was a tasty little encounter between two teams fighting for survival in top flight football… Arguably the biggest game of the season for Rovers and one they knew they had to win. The Gaffa had certainly done his homework, he even went to the extent of visiting Boothstown’s home ground prior to the game just to make sure Boothstown’s 1st team game was on…!!
From the off Rovers were rampant, they knocked the ball about well and enjoyed long spells of possession in the opening 10. Shortly after Manu “he scores when he wants” picks up the ball on the left flank near the corner flag, he takes on the full back and then embarrasses the centre half and crosses in a delightful ball, Pricey who is lingering in the box hits the ball first time on the volley and it rockets past the Btown keeper – 1 NIL ROVERS! – Excellent link up play between the two inform strikers. BTown did eventually manage to get a bit of a grip on the game towards the end of the first half but anytime they got close to shooting range Big Nathan stepped in with some sublime defending and regained control.
For the second time in two weeks Rovers went in at half time winning the game but still very disappointed that more goals hadn’t been scored…
Rover went into the 2nd half with a 1 goal advantage and it didn’t take long before more chances were created. Ian on the right wing played a lovely lofted ball over the top too Pricey, the young lad controlled the ball, went at the full back, left him for dead, dribbled the ball into the box, slipped it around the keeper, cut inside 2 more scrambling defenders and then banged it into the middle of the net! 2 NIL ROVERS!! – Another quality goal from the liverpudlian lizard and that takes his total to 13 for the season. The game then started to get a little bit scrappy and Rovers gave away a couple of silly free kicks and Sanjay had to pull off a world class save to prevent a BTown shot from flying into the top right hand corner. Btown were growing in confidence towards the end and they did pull a goal back with about 10 minutes to go. 2 – 1 Rovers. Rovers stood strong, defended as unit for the rest of the game and deservedly took the win.
Considering Rovers were missing 2 big players, this was an Excellent result – BACK to BACK to BACK WINS!
Goals: Pricey 2
Man of the match: Big Nathan – Was an absolute monster throughout!
