Rovers came into this game with lots of confidence and still buzzing from the previous week’s performance against South Manchester where we dominated for 90 minutes. Despite a last minute Pitch change from Rushford Park to Parrswood school due to what could only have been a nuclear bomb test on the Rushford Park pitch judging by the state of it, Rovers remained undeterred and despite the state of the Parrswood School pitch rovers started well. Knocking the ball about with supreme confidence and working the triangles well. It wasn’t long before Pricey found himself tight in the corner on the right wing. A nice turn and some tricky footwork saw young Price nut meg 2 defenders, before laying it off to Mo in the 18 yard box. A bit of Mexican flair saw Mo back healing a perfectly weighted ball through the defenders legs back to Pricey, who took 1 touch to control the ball, then rifle it into the roof of the Parrswood Celtic net. 1 NIL ROVERS and a lot of red faces in the Parrswood defence!
Rovers continued to play their football and despite a few half chances for Parrswood the Rovers defence stood tall clearing anything that came near them. It wasn’t long before rovers were 2 nil up. For the 2nd week running Manu capitalise on a bit of shady defending from the opposition and slotted the ball home to extend Rovers lead.
Just before the half seen Parrswood creep back into the game with a goal against the run of play, a bit of scrappy play in our box seen the ball come through a crowd of players and into the bottom corner giving Sanjay no chance.
Parrswood started growing in confidence creating a few more chances, the most notable being when their striker broke free and got away from our defence, dinked the ball over Sanjay who came out to close the angle, only for a great covering run by Ian seeing him clear the ball off the line and stop what should have been a certain goal.
Rovers then picked up the pace and got back to playing our own football which seen a corner (May even have been a free kick) in the Parrswoods end whipped in, Mo got a glimpsing touch with his head that took the ball in the direction on Damo who used his Jedi-like reflexes to turn the ball goal wards and hit the back of the net. 3-1 ROVERS.
With the 2 goal cushion re-installed rovers confidently knocked the ball about the park creating numerous other chances that we just couldn’t put away including a ‘Criminal’ Scuffed shot from Liam after excellent play from the wee man down the right wing and an outstanding save from the Parrswood Keeper from Andrea’s Shot from outside the box that was heading for the top corner.
Rovers ran out winners stopping Parrswood from going 1 point off top of the league. Great win against the odds.
BACK TO BACK WINS FOR THE MIGHTY ROVERS!
GOALS: PRICEY, MANU & DAMO
SEASON GOALS:
1. Pricey = 11
2. Damo = 6
3. Manu = 5
4. Yousef = 3
NOTE FOR NEXT WEEK:
We play Boothstown next week which we should fully expect to take the 3 points. They have been getting spanked by every other team in the league including an 8 NIL drubbing last week. We’ve a few key players missing for the game (NAMELY DAMO) and some Fringe Players missing (NAMLEY ANDY WHITE). Despite this we have an excellent squad and getting good turn outs over the last few weeks with 16+ players.
DO NOT TAKE THIS GAME LIGHTLY. We put these out of the county cup earlier in the season and they will think they owe us one for it so make sure everyone brings their ‘A’ game. I’d be extremely disappointed if when I get back I walk straight back into the team because we played so bad or lost. I fully expect you to get a good result and as you know the first rule of football. # DON’T CHANGE A WINNING TEAM.
