It was a fairly even first half. Both sides created chances. Rovers won a penalty. Masterman coolly converted, 1-0. For the last 10-15 minutes of the first half Hybrid began to exert pressure. This continued for the majority of the second half. Despite heroics from Ricky: first a one-on-one save, followed by a brilliant dive to his right after we cleared a corner. A neat finish saw Hybrid draw level. A cross straight across the six yard box was converted 1-2. Their left-winger was then clipped in the box for a penalty 1-3. We did threaten a couple of times going forward. Dee and Dec both had headed chances. Mo was taken down in the box but no penalty given. Owen’s shot from close range was saved by the sprawling keeper. A thoroughly disappointing result and display. Not the way you want to lose an unbeaten home league record of 3 years, 9½ months. You have to hold your hands up and say it was a fair result. Not good enough, especially considering the players we had on the pitch. G said if we’re all 10% off that gives the opposition a man advantage. Too many of us played like we’d eaten too much Christmas turkey, even though it’s February. Hybrid did have the advantage of having played the previous two weeks and perhaps match fitness was important given we matched them early doors. If so, get down to training. We missed a great chance to put Hybrid out of contention for the title today. As it stands there are four sides now fighting it out: Withington Wanderers, Rovers, Kents, Hybrid plus a couple of long-shots. As G said it’s still in our hands as we’ll win the league if we win every game. We’ll have to play better than today if we want to have a chance of that. The abilities are there in the squad to win the league but every single play has to take responsibility for their own job and performance to make it happen for the team. Do you want a league title or not? Goals: Masterman Seasons goals includes: Denton 2-0 (Big Nathan, Nathan), Manchester Valient 2nd 2-1 (Dec, Nathan).
