Afternoon Folks, finally managed to get my account back up and running so have decided to construct a match report on Last Saturdays Game.
Manchester Rovers 5 – Moston Brook 4
We all knew it would be a feisty game given our encounter earlier in the season down at their place so we we’re definitely up for the physical challenge from the warm up.
Rovers started well taking an early 1 nil lead with Pricey slotting the 1st goal of what would turn out to be a busy afternoon for the little welsh wizard! The lead didn’t last long with Moston Brook equalizing through sloppy defending and bad communication between keeper and defence that needed to be better. We can only learn from it. Our heads didn’t drop tho, we keep pushing forward and due to ourselves advancing, Moston broke free and scored against the run of play. Rovers caught again by a simple counter attack. This is something we do work on at training so if we could all get our arses down to it on a Thursday for an hour we could stop goals like this.
Even at 2-1 down, Rovers never looked like throwing in the towel and before too long we were back in the game, a well worked bit of play from the defence, through Midfield and on to Pricey to cut back in on to his favoured left peg and slotted past the keeper. 2-2 and a brace for the Price-inator!
However, in true Rovers form for this season, we couldn’t hold the lead for Long. Again a simple counter caught us off guard and we we’re behind 3-2. Still we refused to buckle. We kept pressing, kept asking questions and then Woody found himself on the edge of the box free, he took his touch and let fly with what could only be described as a wank-tastic shot from 25 yards that 2 keepers wouldn’t have saved. All square at 3 -3.
Rovers continued to push forward and deservedly so went 4-3 up when Pricey rounded the Keep to make it 4-3 and crown his hat-trick.
Rovers grew in confidence and started frustrating the Moston Brook team. Tackles and trash talk were flying from every angle and after Damo conceded a free kick for a 50/50 challenge on the edge of the box, the Moston number 10 shoved him to the Ground. On getting up after a little bit of a tangle on the way up the Moston No. 10 (and Captain) Lashed out connecting with a Sweet right hook to Damo’s jaw! Luckily for rovers Damo is hard as nails and the guy most have thought he’d punched a brick wall as Damo didn’t even flinch. The ref seen it all and Moston were down to 10 men, and rightly so.
Sod’s law, Moston scored from the resulting free kick and the teams were tied up again at 4-4. Much to the dismay of a screaming Pricey. Who in his own words ‘Was the only one that tries’ haha With 3 goals under his belt at this point, he was well within his rights to challenge other players for soft goals we concede.
Given the spirit Rovers showed all day and in recent weeks bar a few little blips here and there, this game was always going to be ours, in the dying minutes pricey found the ball at his feet once more and the man on form placed the ball past the keeper for his forth goal of the day. Surprising considering he didn’t get one ball in the net when we were doing shooting practice before hand , but he was obviously saving them all up for the game itself.
Conclusion, Great character and fight to never let the match get away from us, every single person on the pitch played their part in this victory from starting line up to the subs that came on to Stu the manager who stuck to his word and was a bit more ‘Subdued’ on the side line. Great result and great performance against a team of thugs and scum bags who did show their true colours after the final whistle when they had a further 2 men sent off for a near pitch brawl and their manager was also a total disgrace leading and encouraging fighting after the whistle. Bad losers!
MAN OF THE MATCH: Has to be Pricey 4 goals in a game, no brainer
AREAS TO WORK ON FOR NEXT WEEK: stopping counter attacks further up the pitch
Disclaimer, this game was nearly a week ago so I’m unsure of the finer details but I’m pretty sure this is roughly how things went.
