This was the first cup match of the season. Rovers entered the competition on the back of last season’s cup win and excellent recent league record. Timperley started well on their home pitch and were able to move the ball well and create problems in the Rovers defence. Nevertheless it was Rovers who broke the deadlock. Fantastic hold up play from Dennis who then slid an inch perfect through ball to Mo, a side foot finish of top quality saw Mo take the lead in the scoring charts. It’s great to have so many different goal scorers and a challenge to the forwards to get back on top. Timperley however showed why they were in the competition. They reacted with two goals before half-time that left the home side favorites.
In the second half Rovers got a much better grip of the game, they matched Timperley in every department and were able to stop them playing as they had in the first period. In the words of the opposition we deserved at least to have got onto level terms. The three best chances of the half fell to us however we were unable to convert.
The result drops us into the county cup. Next week it’s back to the league with a tough game against Hybrid.
Goals: Mo 1
Seasons Goals: Mo 3, Bills 2, Tad 2, Brandon 2, Ross 1, Damo 1, Harris 1, Masterman 1
