Rovers’ results against AFC Stockport this term pretty much sum up their season so far: won one, drawn one, lost one. They greens did not have a good day on Sunday and Stockport were worth the three points; Alison F scored a good goal from the edge of the box in the first half and Belinda went close with a header from Chloe’s corner but for much of the game Rovers struggled to get – and keep - the ball out of their own defensive third. AFC play on a very small pitch with a terrible slope but to pay them their dues, they made the most of the slope in the second half and pinned Rovers back.
So this was a day Rovers will want to forget, but with some hard work in training and as long as each player takes responsibility for their own game and commits to put things right in the next fixture, Rovers have a chance to get that winning feeling back on Sunday against Oldham Vixens, and to carry some confidence into the last few games of the season. After the great start they made to this campaign, Rovers should be looking to emulate some of those early performances and end the season on a high.
Players’ player of the match – Alison F. Scored a really good goal from the edge of the box and unlucky to have to go off injured midway through the second half. Well played Fletch.
Managers Point Of View This was another Jekyll and Hyde display the previous week we were very unlucky to get beat against Wytheshawe . ( Who will go on to win the league) and then this week we were lucky not to get beat by a heavier score against a side that would have no chance against Wytheshawe. We spoke after the game about habits when your losing games its easy to get stuck in that rut. But its a rut that I believe this team can get out of. There is not a single AFC Stockport player that I would swap for one of our players. Rovers have some of the best players in this division. Its all down to how we react to the position we are in now if we turn in another display like last Sunday we will lose. If we play as a unit and for the shirt on Sunday then no matter the result we will have done all we can . But believe me if we play as I know this group of players can we will win. The reaction to this result started at training and it was great to see 17 players there and put in there all lets get back to that on Sunday and keep it for the rest of the season. Our aim was to break into the top 4 this season that's still to play for lets grab it with both hands .
Managers Player There was some good individual displays on Sunday . I have gone for our captain Chris. Could have easily set most of the game out after a nasty knock to the nose. But played on bravely for the Rovers cause.
Ref Watch Don't normally do this for the ladies game. But his display did annoy me. Still baffled how he gave them a free kick which lead to there second goal while looking the opposite way. To me he went on the shout from there side lines and seemed to do that all day with some very strange decisions. He may as well have stayed at home and let there side lines ref. Very poor 3 out of 10.
