A flying start today by Rovers saw a freekick from the left byline swung in by Miguel. Following an aerial challenge the ball dropped to Gilly who sent the ball flying into the bottom corner for GOAL!!! 1-0 in 30 seconds. Harlequin, sitting second in the table reacted immediately, a ball in behind was stopped brilliantly by Riccy to preserve the early lead. However Harlequin were by no means lying down and kept knocking on the Rovers door. A ball down the left was driven in off the post to square the match, GOAL! 1-1. Minutes later their number 15 kicked out at Lowry in front of the referee and was RED CARD for violent conduct, no excuses, fair play to the ref who made a tough decision early on.
Rovers old 10 man phobia looked like it was sticking around when it was Harlequin who continued to create chances. Then a corner was nodded home to give the 10 men the lead GOAL! 1-2. A fairly scrappy game followed with clear chances few and far between. The last 10 minutes of the half saw Rovers begin to assert their authority on the game, some great football was played in the final third that could easily have seen an equaliser before half-time.
The second half started well for Rovers with the team carrying on where they left off from the end of the first half. Soon enough Mo was wrestled to the ground in the box for a Rovers penalty which Fraser neatly tucked away, except Mo was encroaching, so Fraser took an instant replay shot and beat the keeper again, great composure GOAL!!! 2-2. Rovers were looking more and more in control of the game before a superb team move. Manu passed back to Riccy to Owen to Whitey who found Manu on the left wing. Manu, right on the byline beat 3 players before squaring the ball the Andy in an advanced position, Andy's through ball was dispatched by Tad, first time, left footed to the top corner. Back to Front and an excellent team GOAL!!! 3-2.
Mo next played a peach of a pass down the right where Tad’s cross was tipped to Nathan off the keeper but the ball just wouldn’t stay down. With Rovers sensing blood Harlequin scored a hand assisted GOAL! to level the score 3-3. With Rovers feeling hard done by a minute later Manu beat a few players for fun down the left wing and his shot was blocked with Andy screaming for the pass in the centre, Tad tucked home the rebound GOAL!!! 4-3. Another good team goal saw Miguel play a great through ball to Manu who squared to Tad to Andy who crossed to Nathan who smashed home for GOAL!!! 5-3 and Rovers safely through to the semi-final. But not before Miguel tried to grab the shirt of an opposition player only to acciedently reenact this famous scene between Vinnie and Gazza.
