Rovers started the game brightly and barely looked back. The early exchanges saw Rovers pressing hard for an opening goal, great link up and passing football from defence to attack saw Rovers dominate. In other games this season early dominance hasn’t been converted to goals but today Rovers were patient and kept plugging away. After the Gilly showed great feet and was tripped in the box Stu pulled the penalty wide. Rovers today however had the strength to keep going. Tad carried the ball from right to left, the cross from the left picked out a superb run by Luke, his effort was blocked, Fraser reacted earliest and bravest to poke home for 1-0.
Cometh the hour cometh ... Stu Mason. When Mig was tripped on the right side of the box Stu stepped up to take the freekick, this time perfectly executed into the top corner 2-0. Shortly after Tad’s freekick from the left was headed towards goal by Dec only to be blocked on the line by Jonesy who proceeded to smash the ball home 3-0. At this stage Rovers were threatening to run riot and should have had a couple more goals before the break. The Urmston played some good football for 5 minutes before half-time to give Rovers a warning before half-time.
Graham asked us to win the second half.
Rovers for the most part carried on where they left off. However chances came and went and Rovers should have put the game far beyond the opposition. However a rare Urmston attack saw their forward’s shirt pulled in the box, the penalty was converted 3-1. This was a warning to Rovers who redoubled their efforts, more chanes came and went include Andy hitting the inside of the post and somehow staying out. Dec’s freekick from the halfway line was pinpoint, finding Andy on the right byline, the cross was turned home by Alex to confirm the win 4-1.
Similar to Trafford and the second half against AFA Rovers had an excellent all round game. The defence was excellent, Miguel and Owen dominated the midfield battle and the forwards attacked and pressed as a unit. We have to hit these performance levels more than one game in a row .
Goals: Fraser, Stuart, Jones, Alex
Seasons Goals:
7 Manu,
6 Fraser, Nathan,
3 Mason
2 Ross, George, Owen, Miguel, Jones,
1 Gilly, Tad, Alex, Rob, Dec, Pricey, Lowry, Alex
Players Player: Miguel
Excellent all round midfield display. Box to box, played some great passing football and battled well alongside Owen to provide the solid core that allowed the team to dominate the match.
