Rovers finally arrived in the 2014-15 season today with a performance that stands alongside every match last season. Rovers looked dangerous early doors with both Manu and then Masterman getting in behind the defence and coming close. Some great pressing at the front saw Manu block the keepers clearance for 1-0. Manu’s example inspired Tad and Nathan to press some more, Nathan stole the ball and squared to Manu in the box for 2-0. A great bit of build from the whole team eventually saw Nathan dummy the through ball, Tad’s shot was brilliantly saved by the keeper. Trafford had some possession towards the end of the half, the backline held firm throughout, when Trafford broke in behind a great block from Riccy preserved the clean sheet. Just before half-time a touch of ankles in the box gave Trafford a lifeline as the penalty was converted for 2-1.
We were asked to maintain the performance level for 90 minutes.
Rovers started slowly in the second half and Trafford came out fighting. A cross into the box saw Rovers misjudge the header, a very well placed shot beat Riccy and the four defenders on the line 2-2. Soon after a missed clearance saw their forward smash home turning the game on its head 2-3. Rovers managed to compose themselves and started throwing counter punches. Then Fraser came on. A corner was headed goalwards by Dec with Fraser was the fox in the box who turned the ball over the line 3-3. Moments later Tad played in Gilly down the right wing, the cross from the byline saw Fraser score his second in two minutes 4-3. Two minutes later Masterman’s freekick from the right saw Dec and Nathan challenge for the ball which broke to the far post where Fraser was lurking to complete an unbelievable four minute hattrick.
