The task was clear: win the match, win the league. Rovers had to contend without having players who had played a big part in the run in in Owen and Nathan. However a big squad was present to try to help Rovers over the line.
[pitch] A 4G pitch along with the smallest dimensions possible.
[offside] As against Denton Rovers looked odds on to score but just couldn’t break the offside trap.
[Football] Andy White was hungry for the ball and provided good possession from goal kicks. Ross tried to emulate him.
[Anto] Dangerous down the right, overlapping and also long-throws that could have reached the other touchline.
[Urmston] As ever played their football, battled but failed to create clear chances. The back four were superb in the air and on the ground. Standard protection was provided by the tireless Dee and Mo.
[Save] Tad’s 25 yard curler looked destined for the top corner but for a great save.
[Throw-in] Anto threatened again, this time Manu headed Rovers into a first half lead [GOAL!!!] 1-0.
[Chance] Manu was played down the left channel and brought a good save from the keeper. The rebound fell to Tad who couldn’t get the ball out of his feet, Andy White stormed forward but the shot was blocked.
[Yellow Card] Damo felt he had to play his last regular match the same as all his previous matches and received his customary booking for a late challenge.
[Long-range] A shot by Damo from 25 yards was well held by their keeper. At the other end Riccy was equal to their best effort with good hands.
[Half-time] Rovers should have had more goals, the season on a knife edge, Rovers were asked to win the second half.
[Pressure] Despite chances and pressure Rovers couldn’t double their advantage.
[Scrap] The Urmston captain chased and squared up to Damo. Damo maintained his brilliant trait of walking a tightrope whilst remaining on the pitch.
[Substitution] Bills and Jones came on for Dave and Masterman.
[Goal] Jones won the header into the path of Bills. After a bounce Bills smashed home for 2-0!!!
[Betfred] Reduced their odds on Graham becoming the next Man United manager from 100-1 to 10-1.
[Pressure] More chances came the way of Manu and Bills but Rovers were unable to convert.
[Freekick] With seconds left Stuart curled in the freekick of the season. Three Rovers players failed to nod it home, Ross did try really hard though and clashed with the post for his troubles.
[CHAMPIONS]!!! Manchester Rovers won the Cheshire and Manchester Sunday Football League.
Rovers went to Bar 256 and drank and sang like they’d won the league. Campeones, campeones oe oe oe, Campeones campeones oe oe oe. Graham Kelley’s Barmy Army, Graham Kelly’s Barmy Army, We won the league again, fly the flag, fly the flag!
