Rovers were left with the task of winning their last two games to clinch their first top flight title and continue a run of winning titles every four seasons 2006, 2010 and 2014? Another coincidence was we had to beat the two teams we beat to win the cup finals in the last two years, Valiant 2012 then Urmston 2013; in the same order.
[conditions] An evening match, cool, but wet, the ball was tough to control and skidded around.
[early doors] the game was scrappy with both sides battling.
[chance] The Valiant forward was played through on goal. A superb one on one stop from Riccy kept the scoreline blank.
[battle] the midfield battle continued, Owen and Damo were the two warriors in midfield. We battled players who were in the great Valiant team of 2012 who wanted to give us some payback.
[penalty] A freekick into the box saw Dave blatantly pushed for a stine wall penalty. Bills cpnverted for [GOAL!] 1-0.
[pressure] Before the break Valiant seemed to have corner after corner with the Rovers nerve being tested.
[half-time] 1-0 at the break. The task was to win the second half.
[tight] At 1-0 the battle continued in tricky conditions. Owen and Damo continued to battle away in the centre. Jones entered the fray and brought some new emphasis to the six second rule.
[GOAL!] A cross from the right by Tad was guided home by Bills to put daylight between the sides.
[penalty] A needless shove in the Rovers box saw a penalty awarded. It was converted to half the deficit [GOAL] 2-1.
[PRESSURE] With minutes left on the clock Valiant threw the kitchen sink at Rovers.
[Corner] Their keeper came forward in a desperate bid to spoil Rovers season.
[Pinball] Rovers just couldn’t clear, twenty men in the Rovers box. At one stage six Valiant players were unmarked at the back post … a desperate lunge intercepted. Rovers cleared to Manu.
[Counter] Manu broke one on one with their defender on the halfway line. He kicked and out sprinted him to the corner of their penalty area. The keeper was still on the halfway line. Manu coolly slotted home [GOAL!] 3-1!!!!!!
[Interview] Rovers player “Great finish Manu”. Manu “Shinned it”.
