Rovers had gifted today’s opponents a two goal head start twice already this season. Unbelievably lightning struck for the third time in the same place. Rovers lacked communication at the back early on. Then a Levenshulme corner was curled directly into the goal. A clearance from another corner fell to their centre midfielder who smashed home an unstoppable half-volley from 30 yards, though he should have been closed down. For the third time this season Levenshulme sat off a little and allowed Rovers into the game. There were a couple of half chances, Jonesy stung the hands of the Levenshulme keeper.
Levenshulmes third saw their quick striker finish on the break. Rovers rallied again. However a Bills penalty was too little too late. The league went out of our hands.
It would be easy to criticise the defence for the three defeats against Levenshulme. However conceding three goals a game against the league’s top scorers is only slightly below par. Especially if we cut out the 4 or 5 we gifted them. This is side liable to concede goals, almost double the goals Rovers have conceded. However 1 goal scored in 270 minutes of football is at least equally disappointing.
If Rovers showed up both in attack and defence there is no reason the opposition couldn’t be beaten.
