ROVERS(green) 4-2 ROVERS(red)
The match had an even start between two well matched line-ups.
It was the reds who threatened first with a few dangerous through balls for George to chase. Soon the greens had a spell in the opposition area with numerous corners.
Perhaps the move of the match came from a red corner. Straight from Gs training ground drill Alex cleared to find Tad who played it back to Alex, Alex fed Manu who turned and played in Tad down the right flank. The cross from Tad found Alex at the back post who just had to stretch and the shot went over. End to end in 10secs, unlucky.
Soon after Alex got his reward when he smashed his shot into the top corner from the left side of the box [GOAL!] 1-0.
Following this the greens pinned the reds back for a long period.
However the greens were punished for profligacy in front of goal. At the other end following a good build-up the cross from the left was glanced home superbly by George, [GOAL!]1-1.
Within a minute of the restart Manu broke through behind the red defence and tucked away his effort, the goal stood despite offside protestations of the reds [GOAL!]2-1.
[SENDING OFF]Before half-time Dee received two yellow cards and walked, the first for back-chat, the second for back-chat. However Dee then back chatted his way to getting the cards rescinded during half-time.
The second half saw an early corner for the greens. After a scrap in the six yard box Liam smashed home for [GOAL!]3-1.
The game started to get stretched under the blazing sun with both teams tiring. The reds threw the kitchen sink at the greens. Several times the greens threatened to put the game beyond reach on the counter.
After sustained pressure following the introduction of the green manager, Masterman, ONTO THE RED TEAM!!!, Mastermans dive combined with high pitched scream bought a penalty, Masterman converted to add insult to injury, [GOAL!]3-2.
Masterman soon fell down in the area looking for another penalty, this time justifiably booked, although this time it looked a stonewall penalty.
The reds nearly completed a gritty comeback but Nathans shot rattled back off the crossbar.
After Tad hoofed the ball forward Manu beat Sanjay to the ball and scored for [GOAL!]4-2.
Great match. All players, managers and referee were a credit to the club.
Impressive performances from a number of players, particularly Jonesy and Luke at centre half for the greens. See Facebook vote for players player poll.
Ref Watch 8/10 A number of tough calls. Always an impossible job to get every decision right. Probably the right call for the offside for Manu as G said he was onside. Excellent decision to send off Dee, sent a clear message to the rest of the lads not to overstep the line. The Masterman penalty appeals evened out. Great job overall, cheers Jono.
Big thanks to G, Stuart, Jono and our stand-in managers Fraser (red) and Masterman (sub G – half-time) (green).
Overall a great advert for the club.
