The game began on a leveller of a pitch that cut up and made today a scrappy at times. Early on Rovers were exerting pressure. There had been a couple of early chances with both Jonesy and Nathan going close. However, against the run of play Denton broke forward and a cross come shot deflected off the chest of a Denton player and looped into the goal, 0-1. Rovers struck back immediately. Bills went through on goal, the shot was blocked and Nathan followed up to side foot home despite the keeper getting a fingertip to the ball [Bills later claimed to have a back that looked just like the keepers glove and that actually it deflected in off him but no one believed him unless they also attended St Malachy’s College. The dubious goals committee currently sees Bills trail Nathan 7-1 in votes; the one for Bills was voted by Bills - case closed]. Rovers dominance continued and Jones and Mo linked up before Mo played in Bills who opened his account for the day, 2-1. At this stage Rovers were cruising although only one goal up, it looked a matter of time before a third goal came. However, Fraser pulled up injured and their centre midfielder dived recklessly into a tackle on Dec. It hit Dec on the knee when Dec was off the ground at the time. An absolutely shameful moment for the player. The ref showed a straight red, he had no other choice though we know other refs have bottled these decisions in the past. Fairplay to a young ref only in his second or third match. However not for the first time this season Rovers didn’t take advantage of being a man up and lost their rhythm. Two changes hadn’t helped but a Denton equalizer for 2-2 before the break was not good enough.
G asked us to make use of our extra player by moving the ball and to make sure we win the second half.
The first few minutes of the half were scrappy but Rovers slowly regained their grip of the game. A second for Bills made it 3-2 on the hour mark. The next twenty minutes saw Rovers threaten occasionally to put the game beyond Denton. At 3-2 it was always a risk that their strong attack nicked a goal and threatened to embarrass us. A great cross from Anto found Ste who cooly slotted home for 4-2 with less than ten to go. The result looked done until a Denton corner halved the deficit. Weaker teams might have buckled and Denton had one more break that was just stopped by the defence. Rovers broke with four on two and after failing to convert Denton again showed their frustration when Pricey was chopped down in the box. Pricey’s penalty came back to Pricey off the post, he tucked it away but that’s against the rules.
A good win against the top scorers in the division. They’re a side that’s beaten Caspian and AFA this year and must not be taken lightly in the return in a few weeks.
Next week the Subsidiary Cup Semi-Final against Manchester Athletic who have pushed us very close twice already this year and will be all out to keep their season alive.

Superb display. The main battle today was in the middle of the pitch which cut up and made today a scrappy game for long periods. Dee was ever present as the backbone of a solid performance for the team.
Ref Watch 9/10
An excellent performance from a young ref. He didn't get every decision right which is impossible. However he got the major calls correct and wasn't influenced when players got on his back.
Seasons Goals:
17 Bills
14 Big Nathan
5 Pricey
4 Mo, Ste
2 Tad, Dee, Dec, Fraser,
1 Ross, Macca, Owen, Manu, Ben, Masterman, Lavelle, Jones
