First round against the league champions, the toughest draw possible to defend our trophy. G asked us for a performance and we set out to do just that. Early on the game was fairly even, Manu nearly burst through on goal after an attack down the left. Unfortunately, for five minutes our heads went and Levenshulme scored two goals with neat finishes. The goals were soft, similar to the previous week, which was disappointing. For the rest of the half there were few chances. Things weren’t quite clicking.
The second half began with a third goal. Possible offside but can’t expect the ref to call it right when it’s within a couple of yards. Superb finish left Ricky no chance. For the rest of the match however rovers found themselves. Superb passing football from back to front must have been a pleasure to watch on the side. After a superb move Masterman’s cross was struck by Manu but just wide. Bills won a penalty but unfortunately missed the target. If these had gone in perhaps the comeback was on. It wasn’t to be but a great second half display with lots of positives to take to the league next week.
Players Player
Joint award to Bills and Dee
Ref Watch
9/10
Thought this was a superb display. No fuss. One yellow card for a poor late tackle. Gave a correct decision for the penalty. May have missed the offside for the third goal.
Seasons Goals (includes Bills, Mo from last week):
4 Big Nathan, Bills
2 Tad
1 Pricey, Ross, Ste, Fraser, Mo
