In a game which saw the opposition turn up late and then demand to see players IDs while all the players were ready to kick off.
Expected a bit more from a team that last year won there division an cup. But what turned up was a long ball bunch of bullies.
Rovers had worked hard on Tuesday on defending corners this payed off with there same mundane corner easy pickings for the Rovers defence. However after there 100 punt up field Ashton took the lead. Rovers then responded. With Iz and Belinda going close on corners. Jen Lorna an Belinda all made there keeper work from open play. Rovers were starting to look dangerous and when the goal did come it was a cracker. Sarah sent Belinda free and her fine pass was converted home to make it 1 each. Rovers were now looking the more likely to score. Nat and Fletch in the middle were getting tru some real hard work. Winning ball after ball and producing good passes. However to Rovers dismay long ball wanderers (Sorry Ashton) With another big toe across field found there striker at the far post for 2 one. At half time we said the obvious that all this team had was a long ball and all the real footballers were in green shirts. It was true and I for one felt we could have this game.
Second half saw the ref make allot of mistakes with the glaring one being the offside for there 3rd goal. 3 players 10 yards offside and a linesman flagging all a give away that its offside. At 3 one rovers were hampered with there lineman flagging everything offside including where Jen waltzed past 2 players to go straight tru on goal. Very strange.
Ashton went 4 one up from a free kick. Allot has been made of the challenge in Ashtons match report so will address this further down.
Now most team would have folded here but not this team. Rovers were still trying to play football. Jen pulled a goal back with goal of the match a fine lob over the advancing keeper. Both Jen an Belinda went close with Jen very unlucky not to get a hat trick. Strong finish from the unlucky greens.
Ref Watch 3 out of 10
Very poor . Why are we paying extra to have refs who are 3 grades down from last season. Plus the linesman thing was a joke left it open to cheating and it looked like they were cheating. We have never had this in our league . Should Rovers be charging the ref or league for providing liners. Plus do we need training for this job or at least a meeting with the ref sec to explain to teams what they are doing. 3 refs now and I am very much missing Graham and his dog. Much better ref and cheaper go figure.

Fletch for all her hard work in the middle and Cris our Captain who kept the team going right to the end.
The Tackle.
There match report has made a lot of this tackle. Then again it all so says they produced an excellent win which sums it up.
From a managers point of view I would be disappointed if my goalkeeper did not go in for this tackle. The ball was there to be won and neither player pulled out of the tackle. Yes Amanda clipped her and yes a yellow card was probably correct. But it was not a goal scoring opportunity. Plus there player did have the choice of backing out which is all ways wise when you see a keeper coming at you in that position. Take the throw in.
What was most disappointing was there manager running 40 yards to ask the ref for a red card. Disgusting and a real low point.
There match report all so says she was stretchered off. Well done to the imaginary ambulance men and women at Hough end you did a sterling job. We salute you.
I dont want to make light of the girls injury and I really do wish her a quick recovery. But be fair its amateur football tackles Will sometimes not be great. But nobody goes out to injure a player. Sorry but its true.
Managers Point Of View.
Really disappointed in how the opposition played .
This type of football will get you so far but does it benefit the players or the game I'm not so sure.
Really happy with how the Rovers players responded though and on another day this result could have easily been ours.
Cheers Girls g .
