Rovers put the disappointment of the last game behind them with a comprehensive victory over a young Angels team. Though as Cris said afterwards, Rovers rarely make it easy for themselves and Sunday was a classic example, Rovers going two down after twenty minutes after taking too long to get ‘switched on’, against a better side lack of concentration and urgency in the opening exchanges would have proved costly.
But after going behind Rovers started to impose their own game on the opposition and were soon creating chances; Cam, Jen and Lena scoring to send Rovers in 4-3 up at half-time. Graham told the players at the break that they had to earn the right to take the three points and that complacency would reward them with nothing - the second half performance was much improved.
Rovers went on to score another five, Cam with her first Rovers hat-trick and Jen could have had a hat-trick too to mark her birthday, there were also goals from Nat and Lena (and a contender for open goal miss of the season, but we won’t mention that...). The defence was also more organised as the game went on, Newman in particular was commanding and communicative at the back and tried to bring the ball out from defence wherever possible.
A good performance then and the first win of the season which will breed confidence for the greens going into the next game.
Players’ player of the match – Cameron. Her first hat-trick for Rovers and she could have had another one Rovers created so many chances – a constant threat. Well played Cam.
