Rovers in there debut season in Division A finished 8th place in what was a tight league where from the 5th to 12th placed teams they were seperated by 9 points. Taking points from the top teams to then getting beat by the bottom place teams. From stunning performances & wins away at Cheadle Res, Whitworth Park & Old Trafford Res to losing to Newton Heath Res & South Manchester Res both of whom were relegated.
Rovers who had been demoted two leagues following there bottom place finished in Div 2 the previous season had to rebuild in pre season & start from scratch & put a team / squad together for the coming season. Several new faces to the club came on board which meant a squad could be assembled & at the peak Rovers had the choice of 21 players which was for the Saturdays a huge improvement from seasons gone by. Turn outs of 14 plus was a huge improvemnt & was a huge bounus for the Manager to have selection problems. Not just bodies were added but quality bodies too.
This season I have had the pleasure in watching great football being played. Our away games against Cheadle & Old Trafford where the team were playing one touch football was brilliant to watch.
In both cups Rovers were drawn against more experienced teams higher up the leagues which show in the games but this wasn't a season to be thinking about wininng sliverware Taking points from the top teams to then getting beat by th bottom place teams.
I could go on for ever about this season as it has been eventful but i will say this. This team is capable of wininng this league they just need to see it for themselves.
Its been a pleasure & lets push on too next season & bring some silverware.
