Rovers started brightly on a frozen pitch down at the university.
These pitches were Rovers home pitch a few seasons ago so it was nice to return there today.
Players were slipping in the conditions and getting control of the ball was difficult. With the conditions suiting River Plates kick and rush football it was them that took the lead. With Rovers letting the ball bounce there striker nipped in to make it 1 nil.
For the rest of the half and the second half Rovers were much the better team and it would have been an injustice if we had been beaten.
With River plates negative football it was up to Rovers to play the football. But with chances going begging it looked like it would nt be Rovers day. Then in the 94th minute Rovers got a free kick near the box. Every Rovers player went into the box to try and score so it was left to our Keeper to take the free kick and his pin point cross saw a Rovers player beat the keeper ( Sorry lads unsure who got the touch) the ball dropped in front of the goal and Andy White put it away for is first ever Rovers goal. Wont be many more important either. ( Well worth the 2 and a half year wait )
Players Player
I use teamer to decide this so important you vote no votes so far though.
Managers Player
Dual award for the second week gone for Ric who was fantastic today and Whitey who yet again put in a top class display and capped it off with his first goal for Rovers.
Ref Watch
7 out of 10
Good to see a new ref come to the league missed a few thins but overall looks like a decent ref.
Managers Point Of View
Going to start with a whine.
Why do some teams not try to play football. Anytime you play River Plate Reds they produce the most boring display of football. Might as well play with a hot potato. Very disappointing at grass roots level. While Rovers tried to attack the opposition were happy to give away free kick after free kick. Could nt help smiling that this tactic back fired with all most the last kick of the game . When yet another hack the player down his better then me was punished for our leveler.
That been said it took a great deal of team spirit today to get any thing out of this game and it was to Rovers credit that we kept chipping away and eventually got our reward well done lads lets make sure we take this into next weeks game.
Cheers lads g
