There's not been a post for saturday too often so I thought I'd throw one up.
Rovers started the game with 10 men due to ade forgetting his boots! The pre-match team talk focussed on taking our time over the game and not rushing; keeping the ball on the deck and making it do the work. We started well and did exactly that. We looked extremly solid and had a good formation. Ade arrived after 15mins boots in hand and we began to threaten the Oldham Vics goal. We slowly built pressure and after winning a free kick mid-way inside Oldhams half and on the left side riccardo rurled in a beautifully weighted deivery to the back post. Atu touched it on and I calmly slotted it through the keepers legs. We could have extended the lead shortly after when the oldham keeper shanked his clearance straight to Atu. However unaware of how much time he had managed only to head it wide. Oldham had a few corners and did hit the inside of the post but thankfully it fizzed across the goal line and out.
Half time came and we talked about keeping the same first half ethos going. Unfortunately the first ten minutes went pear shaped. Firstly Oldham had a shot from the angle that took a nasty bounce off a lumpy pitch that decieved sanjay to equalise and then Phil hacked down Oldhams danger man in the box for them to take the lead with a pen. Fairness to Phil he had to make a challenge and the striker had already weaved his way easily past two defenders. The remainder of the game was all Rovers attacking in my eyes. Dave had a couple of long range shots, we had numerous corners and long throws, I shot agonisingly over at the near post skimming the bar and dave had a volley that went just wide but the equaliser didn't come.
It was a great game to play in; it got a bit niggly at the end and the Ref (who was gave far too many soft decisions and tried his best to ruin the flow of the game) nearly lost control. if we take the form we've shown from the Deans draw the Norris win and this narrow defeat into the end of the season we can expect to get some more results but they will only come if we continue to show this desire.
MOM- don't know the final count but Phil and Riccardo had a few votes each. I'd give it to Riccardo...made one outstanding block in the second half and didn't concede a pen..........
