With both teams on the same points this was a vital game for both teams.
It was all so the first time in a long time that we had 2 subs to pick from which was great to see and hopefully we will see more of it.
To rob a football cliche this really was a game of 2 half's.
Rovers started sluggish and everyone seemed really quite as if we had NT woke up yet or as if we were a little tired.
All thoughat times we played some nice football and created a few chances we did NT really test there keeper Barr a few easy saves. To make matters worse Saffron got into out 18 yard area twice and scored both times. The first a free kick on the edge of the area. Amanda produced a good save from the free kick bu could only parry it and it was there striker who reacted first to nod home for 1 nil. There second to be fair was a good bit of skill by there left winger in the box who found the net from a tight angle to leave Rovers trailing 2 Neill at half time.
We lost Izzy to injury at half time . Who picked up an injury in the warm up but to her credit battled on till half time.
She was replaced at half time by Elle who was coming back for her first game since the injury picked up against city before Christmas.
The second half saw Rovers wake up and finally come to life to produce a great come back but all so play some of the best football you would have seen any where all weekend. The passing and moving was unstoppable with Rovers first to every ball and every player asking and wanting the ball it was a joy to see.
Rovers might not have tested the keeper in the first half but the second half saw Nat sting the keepers hands early on. There keeper then made 2 fine saves from Alison Fletch's and Scarlets shots. Nat then came in from the left to test the keeper again with another long range effort. With our defense backing up the midfield Rovers were getting a firm hold in the game. It was starting to feel like the goals would come from Rovers and 10 minutes into the second half Alison Fletcher's tru ball to Scarlet saw her find the net to pull one back. We had a couple of more chances to level before scarlet latched on to another flowing Rovers move to finish well for 2 each. Rovers were now well in control and looking for a winner. We thought we had it when Rachel's corner was volleyed by Chloe only for the Saffron keeper to produce the save of the match. Elle then put a great cross into the box but Rovers could NT finish it off.
We finally made it 3 two when scarlet completed her hat trick with yet another fine finish.
The game was put beyond any douth when another fine Rovers move down the left found Chloe with her back to goal and closely marked but she turned and found the back of the net beautiful goal
Saffron nearly made it an edgy finish when a mistake saw there striker go clear but Kath and Amanda did a great job of making sure it was only a corner and not a goal. We still had time to see Hayley volley just over as well.
Great stuff.
Ref watch
9 out of 10
You did NT notice The ref and the gamed flowed because of it.
Players Player
Yet again as I don't go back to the Pub Iz will have to let you know this one.
Managers Player
Yet again because of the high quality of play its hard for me to pick with some out standing performances. If it was in the papers it would be 8 out of 10 or above for all the players.
Gone for a joint award of Scarlet and Rachel.
Scarlet
great hat trick but all so played very unselfish and all ways played players in if they were asking for the ball fine display.
Rachel
Controlled the midfield wonderfully. won the ball and played the ball superbly. Top notch.
Managers point of view.
whether it was because we had 13 players for once . Last 4 games 3 we have had 9 or 8 players only. And when we did have 11 players we played top of the league this meant for all of these games we had to raise our game.
Sunday first half how ever we all seemed to be looking at other people to do the hard work and we looked like we were still at home day dreaming. Hopefully we can learn from this and turn up from the start from now on.
That been said the second half more then made up for it.
It was an absolute joy to watch from the side lines .
Lastly it was great to see Elle back who had a great game. Great to have her back in the squad I'm sure you will agree.
Cheers girls g.
