Yesterday was about the 4th time at our level where I have seen a player deliberately stop the ball on the line for a pen. But no card . This would be a straight red on a Saturday. It might be harsh but does anyone else think stick to the rules and send them off ? Or should we have a different set of rules for the amateur game ? End of the day its called a professional foul g.

Got to be a card but probably yellow. It is a professional foul and give a penalty but sending people off is not in the spirit of the sunday game unless you have hacked off someones leg or punched someones eyes out.
Problem is, penalties can be missed! Just ask Atu!

Maybe someone should have pointed this out to the other team; they spent so much time banging on about the penalty decision I don't think they realised they were lucky the guy didn't get sent off as well.
To be honest, I blasted the ball from about 8 yards. The guy on the line was probably trying to protect his face, and if it had been me sent off I'd have felt pretty hard done by, even though I thought it was a penalty. But rules are rules (even though we don't seem to play off-sides or foul throws half the time) and if we'd have missed the pen then they've stopped us scoring and kept 11 players, so until they make it like a rugby penalty try, for me he's got to go.
