Rovers ladies were away to Stockport county ladies an the league and it turned out to be a cracking game.
Stockport put in some hard challenges early on but Rovers more then matched them tackle for tackle. With Rovers showing aggression and skill Stockport must have known early on they were in for a tough game. The rovers back line and keeper were put under a lot of pressure from a side that are used to scoring double figures week in week out. Sarah in goal produced 2 great saves in the first half and all so cleared bravely when one on one with there striker. The back 4 how ever seemed to stop every thing that was thrown at them and made some great last ditch tackles. When Rovers did have possession we looked the more capable side and put together some lovely passing moves 2 of these leading to good efforts on goal from Rachel and Alison Fletch. The Rovers midfield was proving hard to get past as Rachel and both Alison's were working hard to break up play. Our wingers put in a lot of running with Chloe and Kath doubling up on there wingers but expected to get forward as well to support. Stockport took the lead on 40 Min's and in a cruel way. Stockport played a long ball over from the right and with not one but 2 of there strikers in an off side they scored. This should have been an easy decision to rule the goal out as it was a good 5 yards off but no it stood.
1 nil at half time and Stockport decided to go to lunch at half time. When they finally returned it was Rovers who started the brighter and pinned stockport back early on. To be fair their a very good side who were all ways going to create chances and another 2 amazing saves from our keeper plus Iz then Cris and Sarah Shard all cleared off the line in the second half. Very brave defending. We had chances up the other end though. Alison won us a free kick with a great solo run. Which Rachel tested the keeper from 30 yards. We passed it around well and were a pass away at times from really opening them up. Then with 10 mins to go we played some great passing football through our midfield. Rachel's pass to alison Fletch cut the defense apart. Alison squared it to Amanda whose shot was saved well by there keeper very unlucky from Amanda who battled hard up front on her own which is a big ask against 4 players.
So it was an off side goal that separated the teams at full time. Harsh with you consider the commitment of the players yesterday.

Managers Player
Extremely hard to pick as this was really a big team performance.
There manager went for Alison Mc G.
His words were some great tackling and a constant pain to the Stockport team. (edited for bleeping reasons)
I will back that vote and give the player of the match to Alison.
Ref Watch
8 out of 10
Barr the goal he reffed well just a shame one decision cost us the point.
That said we are not professionals and its the same for the ref so mistakes Will happen.
Managers point of view.
Another big performance from the girls against a team that will go on to win our division .
Proud as all ways of this team we are moving in the right direction and hopefully we will give them more of the same when we meet them again.
Cheers girls g.
