Amanda
This was never going to be an easy match and only having 8 players made it near impossible to get a result against a tough Wythenshawe side. However Rovers Ladies came out fighting and took a shock lead from good inter play from Rach & Alison which put Amanda through to score. 1-0 up and spirits were high. When you're 3 players down though it's hard to mark players on set pieces, and we were unlucky to concede twice to 2 "well worked" corners. Rovers conceded a third goal when the Wythenshawe striker ran though and squeezed the ball past Sarah in goal off the post and in.
Confident talk at half time and a good buzz at taking the game to the full strength Wythenshawe, Rovers again went a the opposition in the second half and Amanda struck again to pull the deficit to just one goal.
Rovers had chances to equalise but the extra 3 players were always going to be an advantage to the opposition and Rovers let in 3 more goals before the final whistle.
This was a very good performance from the 8 players, and you can take heart in it. If we had a full quota (we may not have worked so hard lol) we could have taken the points and be pushing for the promotion spots. Still there is a lot of football to play between now and the end of the season and if you can put the performances in the same as on Sunday I can see this squad pressuring the competition to the very end.
Players Player - Amanda, 2 great goals on her outfield debut.
Managers Player - Sarah, Very good performance in goal on her full debut. Made great saves to keep Rovers in the game throughout.
It was hard to choose a Managers Player because in my opinion every player on the pitch deserved it. It's a shame I have to pick just one.
Ref Watch:- 7.5/10 Did well and dished out the cards to the opposition when needed. Reasonable game from him and didn't make many bad decisions.
