Rovers Ladies' second outing resulted in another hefty defeat.
However, as is so often said, the score line doesn't reflect the match at all. I'm not saying that because we could have held them to only 5-1, I'm saying that because it could have been 5-1 to Rovers!
Rovers only had 8 players - resulting in playing a 3-3-1 formation - and again were without a recognised keeper. What is notable about this performance is that the players began to realise what was expected of them following their open match against a strong Middleton side. We realised that if we don't ball watch and stick to our positions then the game becomes much easier and more fun.
Rovers were quick to break from defence and some superb runs from Ellie and Chloe on the wings proved that we aren't here just to make up numbers in the league. We can play good football. We got the ball on the floor and looked for simple passes that tired oput the opposition. We used the full width of the pitch, always looking for options and offering support in the box for crosses.
The main reason Unified scored 10 is because they had the numbers. We were 3 players down. with no subs. Bravely, Moe had taken up the reigns in goal and had played brilliantly in the first half, but an injury forced Siobhan into goal for the second half with Moe coming out to play right back.
Rovers' goal came from a poor Unified clearance. Chloe intercepted the pass and shot from 20 yards to embarrass the keeper and the ball sailed into the corner. Brilliant goal and a brilliant performance from Chloe.
We obviously do need to improve in certain areas - evident today was the fact we aren't winning any headers or 50/50 balls, and sometimes we just need to hoof the ball out of the pitch. We seem scared of the ball and other players. A lot of the time goals are avoided by winning a header and clearing the danger, being strong in a challenge and using our body weight to win the ball. In summary Rovers are too dainty - but this is something we will continue work on in training - the improvement from the first match was still massive.

Next match Sunday @ Hough End vs Delta 2pm k.o. Support from the lads teams will be much appreciated!
