Manchester Rovers started the 2008/09 season on Sunday against Miles Platting in the County Cup. On paper this was going to be a tough game. Rovers started very well and pressured the opposition at every opportunity causing them to make mistakes. Rovers took the lead after some great play and Ste Fraser slotted the ball home. Brandon Parker Stone made it 2 – 0 shortly after and Rovers were dominant in possession.
Unfortunately a lapse in concentration and a ball over the top Miles Platting got back into the game. Rovers did not let their heads down though and went 3 – 1 in front with another goal from Brandon.
At half-time Rovers went in with confidence but aware that there was still along way to go. With that confidence Rovers pushed forward and went 4 – 1 up after Michael Masterman converted a Penalty. The goals literally then began to flow with Ste Fraser grabbing another 4 and Brandon another to get his hat-trick. Michael Masterman converted another penalty and Paul McNeil came off the bench to score also
Miles platting did grab two consolation goals during the 2nd half. One was an incredibly dubious penalty and the other coming from another defensive lapse. Final score was 11-3. Obviously a great victory and a great start to the season, a few things to be worked on at the back but the pressure we put our opponents under and our superior fitness were the main reason we won this game.
MOM was Ste Fraser
Well done lads, lets keep this going.
