Rovers came into this game after a disappointing loss against Partington last weekend. With a strong squad of 16 Rovers turned up at Fog Lane with only one thing in mind, 3 points! Rovers started well with Hamed Heshmati particularly causing the Inter Didsbury defence problems.
The Rovers defence were not troubled in the early stages of the game and Rovers dominated possession. After a through ball into the Inter box Dave Lavelle was brought down to give Rovers the opportunity to take the lead via the penalty spot. Michael Masterman stepped up and placed the kick in the top corner 0 – 1.
Rovers stepped it up a gear and continued to create chances which really should have seen them go at least 0 – 4 up, from a Seb Phythian corner the Inter keeper fumbled and Dave Lavelle finished well to give rovers a 0 – 2 lead.
Just before half time Rovers made it 0 – 3 after a high ball into the box was finished on the half volley by Michael Masterman.
The half time team talk concentrated on Rovers being focused and going into the 2nd half not thinking the game had already been won. Unfortunately as has been on a number of occasions this season Rovers decided not to turn up in the 2nd half and conceded a goal 5 minutes into the 2nd half. Although Rovers were still creating a few chances, the tempo of the play died down and Inter got a late goal to make it a nervy last few minutes.
This victory keeps Rovers promotion and title hopes alive, a classic game of two halves which seen Rovers getting the 3 points required. Well done lads, I hope we can take the 1st half performance onto Thursday night’s game and show Partington that we are the better team.
