Rovers were away again this week, the atmosphere and opposition were just has demanding as the previous week. Unfortunately Rovers could not get there game going and to be honest we were bullied out of this game.
As the game went on it was obvious that Partington’s tactics were to muscle Rovers out of the game and disrupt any play with hideous challenges and off the ball incidents. The referee on the day did nothing to help Rovers plight and constantly made errors in which drained the belief from the Rovers team.
Aside from this there were small spells in which Rovers played OK but the long ball over top caught Rovers out and Partington took a 1-0 lead middle way through the first half. The half time team talk was a bit of a wakeup call to Rovers and we came out with a bit more fight and got a great goal through some excellent work from Tony Farrell, Dave Harris and finished well by Paul McNeil.
Rovers perked up after this goal and the game was there to be won, a number of chances were created but unfortunately none were converted. Partington realised Rovers were coming back into the game and resorted in two footed lunges and bad tackles to try and disrupt any passages of play Rovers had. It worked, and after a corner and as the Rovers defence pushed out Partington scored a blatant offside goal, 2-1.
I’m still fuming about yesterday’s result lads, not just because I’m disappointed with my own performance but because I know that this Rovers team can beat Partington. I think we all know why we were beaten yesterday and it certainly was not through lack of effort or football ability.
Let’s forget about this now and move on, we can still have a great end to this season.
