Manchester Rovers were up against a tough West Manchester side in the middle of Moss Side, this was pretty much the Manchester Publicity League equivalent of Chelsea going to Fenerbache’s Sükrü Saracoglu stadium. The atmosphere was a bit tense to say the least…
A good squad was available and against the wind Rovers started brightly, creating numerous chances and defending really well, catching the West Manchester attack offside on numerous occasions. Manchester Rovers took the lead from a great move which resulted in a Sebastian Phythian tap in.
Rovers’ went into the second half knowing that it was going to be a tougher 2nd half, but once again all 3 units worked well and limited West Manchester to very few chances, however a poor goal was conceded from a corner which really gave the home team a boost.
A resilient Rovers’ carried on playing well and creating chances, and after some great work from Paul McNeil down the right flank, Sebastian Phythian got his second with a calm finish from just inside the 6 yard box. With 5 minutes to go it was time to see what Rovers were made off, and everyone came through strong to get an excellent win.
I think the players MOM was Ross Thompson.
With 5 games to go Rovers are in with a great chance of winning the league and it’s all in our hands, I hope everyone can show the desire and commitment shown over the past two months for the run in.
Well done ROVERS!
