As we are all aware Sunday s weather was - 7 over night. leaving the grounds frozen. How ever the reserves had the misfortune of a referee who decided an unplayable surface was fine to play on. The The pitch was frozen and would not take a stud. Where the mud was turned over from the rain was now ice . leaving not just a trip hazard but razor like ice on the pitch. All games were called off by the referees appointed to those games around this pitch and Hough end. With the only games going ahead been the ones that had no refs or games which a ref had called off. But the teams decided to play without him. Fletch the reserve team manager decided for the safety of his players they would not take to the field . On arrival to try to sort this situation out . I found his stand to be the correct one. there is no way you would send your team out if you thought it was a danger to them. The referee who called off pitches 2,3 and 5 all so agreed saying pitch 4. The one we were due to play on was worse then the 3 he had inspected. How ever trying to reason with the ref appointed to the game was like talking to a wall. With him refusing to walk the pitch with me or fletch so we could show him our concerns. He even tried sticking a key into the ground to say it was OK. Watching this i found funny as even if he had a hammer he had no chance. To add to this the Aswone manager has come out today and said we were scared of his team. He had obviously smoked too much of what he smokes before the game. Yesterdays reserve team squad was a strong side and would have given every thing in this game.
Its a shame to see any game called off and our squad was gutted. But you have to think of the safety of everyone involved at the club.
