Rovers
With this fixture the only match in Division 2 this week due to the weather, all eyes were on this game and with Rovers improving with every game and New East Manchester undefeated in all competitions it was going to be a cracker. Dave Lavelle upset the home team with a 25 yard strike to put the visitors ahead early on, but New East Manchester soon got into their stride and came in at half time 2-1 to the good, however they lost a defender to a red card late on in the half. New East Manchester regrouped in the second half and decided to take control of the match by keeping possession and passing short to open players. Rovers struggled to get to grips with this and NEM went 4-1 ahead. Rovers were then awarded 2 penalties for fouls in the area. Dave Lavelle failed to convert the first, but made no mistake with the second to make it 4-2. NEM scored again, only for Hamed to pounce on a parried save from their keeper to keep the home team within 2 goals. But it went wrong from there as Dave Walton saw red for being adjudged to be last man taking down the attacker, ant Rovers then conceded 2 late goals to flatter the home team with a 7-3 scoreline.
The manager said:
"This was a good performance which we can hold our heads up for. NEM showed they are a very very good team. We battled hard and we were in the game until the last 10 minutes. It was a shame to lose Wally but that's football. If we had played like we have in the last couple of games all season then we would certainly be in the top 5 clubs this season. It shows me that we will be contenders for the league next season if we can keep this squad together."
