Manchester Rovers were away this weekend against a strong West Manchester side who seemed to have a squad of about 18 players.
To the players surprise after warming up on the waterlogged pitch the match started and Rovers fought well and created a number of chances to go into the half time break 1-0 down.
The second half was not the same as the delayed half-time break (due to conversations with the referee regarding the pitch) seemed to get to a few of the players heads. Rovers went 4-0 down and lacked the fight shown in the first half, admittedly some of the goals were due to the horrible conditions but as we said on the day it was the same for both sides.
The match was abandoned after 68 minutes which I think means we will have to play this fixture again, we must take the positives from this game and move on. Hopefully everyone who was there on Sunday will be at training on Thursday.

The pitch was clearly not playable from the start yesterday and i believe the ref made a rod for his own back. As Mike said rovers put in a good half and i believe would have scored but for the conditions. A number of chances scuppered by the river Mersey that was on the pitch. Players from both side were getting stuck in the mud and falling over. Then a ball would stop in a puddle while some one was trying to dribble . Leading to a free for all 2 footed dives for the ball the player left behind. Dave Harris raced clear from there half way line with the defenders flat footed only to get tackled by the mud. Half time comes the ref has a chance to stop it . Instead of just chatting to captains or managers he involed any one who had an opinion. He then chats for another 5 minutes to another ref and decides to carry on. With the condition of if it rained he would call it straight away. Rovers had chances in the second half which they did nt take west Manchester had 3 which they took. (All though from the managers point of view strikes 3 and 4 were off side) .Then the rain falls and the ref abandons the game on 68 minutes meaning a replay.(Like i all ready said the ref caused his own problems yesterday) Last night there manager phoned and all though i do feel for him and his team who are second in the league and need the points for promotion. We are second from bottom in the league and need the points to stay up. So replay it is . What i will say to my players is . There team will feel hard done by after yesterday and will want to make sure they take the points as i would in there situation . Which means if you thought yesterday was hard your in for a shock in the replay make sure we put it right.
