Matches with mowtown this season have been real battles and this was no different, rovers out to try and prove a point after the 7 - 1 whipping in the cup the previous week. But the game didnt start well for an un-interested rovers. Defence looking suspect they found themselves behind as a result of some nuts long ball football and bad refereeing decisions. The only plus point from the first half being the battle shown by Atu to create and score the rovers goal, going in hard on the keeper the ball eventually found its way into the mowtown net.
4 - 1 down at half-time, rovers heads down they looked a beaten team. Players worring about the hangover from last night or what the plans were for the rest of the day. NOT f**kING GOOD ENOUGH!!!!
As the second half begun there seemed to be an urgency from rovers as if something had finally clicked, players winning the 1st and 2nd balls and suddenly mowtown looked in trouble, not competing in any area of the pitch. As the ball broke inside the box Atu was on hand to slot home an early goal, and mowtown were rocking. Rovers began to dominate mowtowns efforts restricted to two brief long ball breaks resulting in nothing. With 10 mins to McNeill found himself in space one on one with the keeper, showing no nerves he casually lifted the ball over the stranded keeper. 4 - 3 A frantic last 10 minutes saw again some dodgy handball calls but mowtown hung on for a victory.
Its disapointing knowing that for 45 minutes rovers played football that would compete for promotion in this league, but every player let themselves down in the first half, I know its a cliche but you need to play for 90 minutes in football. The second half was a step in the right direction, I want sunday to be a different story, frankly lads if your not up for winning dont bother I want to see 90 minutes of commitment to rovers, competing for every ball, every challenge and showing the knobs in this league that we are still the team to beat.
