Battling Rovers Lose to the Wind!
Rovers were unlucky not to pick any points this weekend. A very close encounter was hard fought by both teams and a draw seemed a fair result. But it was Moorside who claimed the points with a long range strike which caught up in the wind and deceived the keeper.
Rovers had earlier drew first blood when Yousef Rooble pounced on a keeper fumble off a Richard Pearson strike. Moorside scored twice to gain the lead through two silly mistakes. First a long ball through caught the Rovers defence watching and then stand-in keeper Nik Sowerby gifted the second with a poor clearance straight to their striker to slot home into an open goal. Rovers got back ahead with goals from Alex Pentecost and Yousef Rooble again, only for the Rovers defence to let the lead slip again to go in 4-3 down at half time. The second half was very much an even contest again but Rovers did equalise with a good finish from Alex Pentecost. Moorside scored their winner with ten minutes remaining, and although Rovers piled on the pressure for an equaliser, Moorside came out the winners.
The Manager said "We battled hard for 90 minutes with no reward. We did make mistakes again, but we are improving throughout the season. But we are always going to struggle to get the points we need if we keep conceeding 4 or more goals per game. We do have injuries in the defence department though. Andy Ewart, Dave Walton, Paul Sanders, Stewart Townsend, and Mark Curtis missing this week. All quality players and would strengthen the team when they are back. We have 2 big games coming up. Curzon Ashton on Tuesday and Table toppers Alkrington on Saturday. If we battle as hard as we did today we won't be far behind either."
