Rovers got off to an awful start after a long ball caught out the defence to give Gorton a 1-0 lead. Rovers created a number of chances during the first half with Mo and Dave Harris causing the Gorton defence problems.
Rovers went into half time 1-0 down but after a positive team talk came out all guns blazing and levelled the scoring with a great strike from Dave Harris. Another long ball caused Rovers defence out and Gorton mate it 2-1. After a tactical change rovers got back into the game from a long throw in with Atu finishing with aplomb from inside the area.
Still causing a lot of problems Rovers took a deserved lead after a great free Kick to the far post by Graham Kenny was headed in by Michael Masterman. Gorton unfortunately would not lie down and grabbed an equaliser pretty much straight from the resulting KO.
During the last few minutes Julien (not sure on the spelling) was pushed in the area and Rovers were given a lifeline from the Penalty spot. Michael Masterman finished well and all Rovers had to do was hold on for just two minutes. Gorton again would not give up and started to use “non-footballing” methods to get to the Rovers players. Unfortunately the pressure resulted in a debateable penalty which gave Gorton the equaliser.
A disappointing result but an encouraging performance in places, a lot of fight and passion was show. I feel all players involved today should take confidence from this game and move on to the next game and get a win.
