Rovers on Top After 11 Goal Thriller!
Rovers started this game with 5 new faces and didn't really expect any kind of a result. But the new lads came in and did a great job, and the regulars helped the new lads out superbly. Rovers hit AFC Oldham early on and were 3-0 in 20 minutes with 2 goals from Alex Pentecost and 1 from Dave Lavelle. Rovers always looked on top in the first half but conceeded on the break just before half time. The second half started with AFC Oldham putting pressure on the Rovers defence but it was Rovers turn to score on the break to make it 4-1 through Alex Pentecost which started an exchange of goals from both teams in turn. Dave Lavelle scored a penalty and Alex Pentecost added his 4th to make the score 6-3 with a couple of minutes to play. Rovers then went to sleep and conceeded 2 goals in the last minute to make the final score 6-5.
The Manager said "It's always great to get the 3 points, but we made hard work of it again. I didn't expect the win with the changes we made and I'm obviously delighted to get the win. I wish to thank the lads who came in to give us a hand as we were short and I hope they stay with the club for the season. Well done to Alex for his man of the match performance and 4 goals. I'm still concerned about the leaking goals syndrome we have, but that is something we are trying to work on. I'm looking forward to the rest of the season with these players because I can see a lot of potential in the squad and we can certainly push for a top 5 spot if we put the effort in."
