Rovers Hit For 6!
After last weeks devastating defeat against local rivals VIP FC, Rovers were hoping for a better performance this week to boost spirits. Going a goal behind within 2 minutes however was not the start we had in mind. We matched the opposition throughout the park and 3 times had to come from behind to equalise through goals from Dave Lavelle and 2 from Alex Pentcost. 3-3 at half time and it looked as though we had an opportunity to take the points, especially as we had the better of the opposition in the first 15 of the second half. But chances went astray and even though we should have scored a couple before Govan went 4-3 up, there seemed to be no way back into the game. Govan saw their chance to make the advantage better and scored twice before the end of the match. A disappointing finish to a game which we looked like we deserved.
The manager said "I am disappointed with the result. I could say we probably didn't deserve 6-3 but a game of football is 90 minutes and we only played for 70, so in that fact we did. We have good players in the squad, and being 3rd highest scorers in the division is testament to that. At the other end of the pitch is a different story and having the 2nd worst defence is something again I have to look at. It's no good scoring 5 if we let in 6 and to win today we would have had to score 7! A big ask at any level. From now on we have to concentrate on not conceeding and giving the team a chance at getting points. It's a shame that the new keeper Nick had to endure conceeding 6 goals after such a good performance. He did well and I hope he sticks with us. We've got another big test next week, so I hope I have the commitment from the squad to put in a better display."
