Rovers Routed by Rivals VIP
This was a match to forget for Rovers. The squad was a little depleted with players injured and unavailable, only a bare 11 and no real recognised goal keeper. The first half was just full of unforced errors and lack of talking and the change in formation was not adapted to and the 6-0 scoreline at half time could have been worse. They took the second half as a training session to iron out the errors of the first half, reverted to the familiar 4-4-2 formation and the team started to get going. Rovers matched the opposition and were unlucky not to win the second half with better chances and eagerness to improve. Peter Evison came out of goal for the injured Paul Sanders and scored Rovers only goal to pull the score back to 6-1, but VIP scored late on to maintain the 6 goal gap at full time.
The Manager said "This was a disappointing performance, especially after the previous weeks displays. We've had some injuries in key areas of the pitch, goalkeepers, strikers etc. but that's no excuse for the poor performance in the first half. On hind sight I didn't do a good enough job at sorting out the first half formation, but that's no excuse on how poorly we played to let in 6 goals in the first half. I was pleased with the second half display and encouraged that the team has the spirit to play til the final whistle even though the game was lost. I hope we can show the same spirit in the next few weeks when we face tougher opposition and hopefully grind out some decent results".
