Rovers Win 2 on the Bounce!
Rovers started the match very tentative as St Margaret Marys passed the ball around well and had the majority of the possession in the opening spell. But it was Rovers who drew first blood when Gary Mason ran on to a through ball and calmly slotted the ball into the net. St Margaret Marys equalised when the ball wasn't cleared properly by the Rovers defence and their striker picked up on the loose ball. Rovers took the lead again through good football down the left, the ball was crossed into Harry who laid it off for Jamie Ashton to score on his debut for the Saturday team. Rovers again let the advantage slip when they failed to clear a corner, the ball was headed back across goal for the striker to finish again. 2-2 at the half and Rovers were hoping to sort out the problems and take the game but St Margaret Marys took the lead for the first time in the match when they broke through the offside trap and slotted the ball past Greg. With Rovers put on the back foot, they started to put pressure on the St Margaret Marys defence and the equaliser came from a Dave Lavelle free kick. Rovers then took the lead when Yousef Rooble slotted the ball past the St Margaret Marys defence for Dave Lavelle to run onto and slot the ball past the keeper. Dave Lavelle also had a penalty saved after Gary Mason was brought down in the area, but luckily for Dave the miss did not matter as the 3 points were earned.
The Manager said "It's good to get the 3 points. It was a hard game but I believe that there won't be any easy games in this league. We're only 6 points off a promotion spot so there is all to play for and there is a possibility that we can take one of the spots. We still have things to work on but were getting better every game. We have to tougher matches coming up so we have to improve again but I'm sure we have the players in the squad to keep getting points and move up the table",
And the penalty miss? "Well you can't score them all. I thought I struck the ball well enough but the keeper made a great save and it went for a corner. It could have taken pressure off us in the dying minutes of the game but unfortunately we had to work ourselves a bit harder."
