Our first win of the Season! And hopefully our first of many.
We took the lead through Alex Pentecost early on in the first half after a good head on by Gary Mason. Moorside equalised when Rovers fell asleep at the back (not for the first time this season!) and their winger popped in behind the defence. Riccardo got a good hand on the shot but was unable to keep it out. Rovers went ahead again through Gary Mason who left the Moorside defence standing when he went through. Moorside were let back into the game when Dave Lavelle made a poor clearance straight to the Moorside attacker who punished with style. But Rovers went ahead again just before the half when Gary Mason was fouled in the area and Dave Lavelle made amends for his mistake by slotting away the penalty. Rovers were then in control for the most of the second half although Moorside had a few chances and could have levelled the score when Rovers were pushing for the decisive winner, which came from Alex Pentecost ten from time, when he snook in at the far post off a superb free kick from Graham Kenny. Rovers held on for the final whistle and their first win if the season. Alex Pentecost was deserved Man of the Match.
The Manager said: "We showed on Saturday that we can play football on the ground, passing to feet, finding space and pick out the killer pass. This was a great and well deserved win. We probably deserved more out of the opening 3 matches but lack of fitness and belief were our downfall. With what I've seen of the opposition so far in this league, I believe that we have a squad that can compete at this level. We've a tougher test on Saturday so let's get our heads back down to earth after the win and put the same effort in this week.
Well Done Lads."
